Women residing in Char areas of Gaibandha take up sheep rearing as a means to become self-reliant

Growing crops have become increasingly challenging in the Char areas of Gaibandha due to rise in aridity and incidence of drought conditions. Livestock rearing has emerged as an alternative livelihood option for local farming communities. Women, in particular, have taken up sheep rearing and are gradually becoming self-sufficient. They now save enough money for domestic expenses, and are also able to afford their children’s education.
